I think we can all agree that 2020 was not what we expected. Going into this year I was looking forward to having all my friends in class for our senior year, staying up late working on projects in the studio together–obviously this didn't happen–all classes were remote. Although this weighed heavily on my mental health and energy level, it was such a beneficial learning experience and I still think I grew greatly as a designer. Coming into Human Centered Design, I honestly didn't see the point, I thought I knew how design should center around the individuals we're designing for, but I didn't know the hard work, research, and empathy that was involved into this concept. Thankfully, my instructor's teaching methods aided my learning and stimulated my interest in furthering my knowledge of human centered designers and their amazing work. In the chaos of going completely virtual, it was nice to have access to everything we would need for classes at the tip of our fingers. The instructor was organized, well prepared, and used class time efficiently. She communicated clearly and was easy to understand. By having multiple co-creation projects and collaborative assignments, it allowed us to connect with our fellow classmates as much as we could in these weird times.
